Coastal Sound-A-Thon Coming October 26 & 27

Help Coastal Sound Music raise funds to continue the nationally award-winning programs they offer the young people and adults in our communities. Singers will be collecting pledges in the community for a 12 hour music marathon – the “Coastal Sound-A-Thon”.

Ways to support these young singers:

1) Come out to Rubens Chocolate to watch a performance, or participate in one of the FREE open workshops.

2) Make a donation online.

3) Contact our executive director to make a tax deductible donation to support these young voices.  Email sing@coastalsoundmusic.com or call 604-552-2762.

4) Make a pledge through one of the singers in YOUR community.

Coastal Sound will also be accepting donations on site at Rubens Chocolate. Thank you for your support!

SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

5pm PERFORMANCE – Small Ensembles, Recital Time

Hear Coastal Sound’s talented musicians perform solo and small ensemble music.

6pm PERFORMANCE – Coastal Sound Adult Choir w/ Michael Grice

Come out an watch an open rehearsal of the Coastal Sound Adult Choir – featuring songs from the Great American Songbook and more.

 7pm OPEN WORKSHOP -African Choral Music w/ Carrie Tennant & George Chung

SATB songs from the African continent. Move, groove and sing these powerful melodies and rich harmonies under the expert direction of Carrie Tennant. All singers ages 10 to adult are welcome.

 8pm PERFORMANCE – Youth Choir w/ Carrie Tennant & George Chung

Come out to see a performance featuring National award winners Coastal Sound Youth Choir!

 9pm closed for the night

 

SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27

 9am OPEN WORKSHOP -Rock-a My Soul w/ Diana Clark

Everyone of all ages and experiences is invited to greet the morning in a cappella songs, featuring spirituals and folk melodies from around the world. Feel these tunes resonate within. Everyone ages 6- adult is welcomed.

 10am OPEN WORKSHOP – Song Play w/ Miss Angie

For the young, and young at heart! Bring your tots to this parent participation class where youngsters will sing and play in the style of our Sources program. All welcome!

 11am OPEN WORKSHOP – The Great Canadian Songbook w/ Andrew & Diana Clark

If you love singing along to the radio, this is for you! All ages are invited to join singer-songwriter Andrew Clark for a trip across Canada, singing folk rock favorites accompanied by guitar.

Featuring the music of Neil Young, The Odds, Sarah McLachlan, Guess Who, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and many more! Lyrics provided on our website, and onsite.

12 noon PERFORMANCE- Small Ensembles, Recital Time

1pm PERFORMANCE Con Brio’s Halloween Howl w/ Diana Clark & Siri Oleson

Con Brio means “with spirit”… but today we mean that with a Halloween flavor! Sing a long to Campfire song melodies with the added fun of ghoulish lyrics. Join with Coastal Sound’s young singers for an hour of fun. Lyrics provided.

2pm PERFORMANCE – Con Bella w/ Tia & Siri

Con Bella means “with beauty”, and this young all-girls’ choir certainly glows with beautiful tone and heartfelt singing.

 3pm PERFORMANCE – Children’s Choir w/ Diana & Siri

An informal performance of sacred music from jazz to gospel.

 3:30 PERFORMANCE – Small Ensembles, Recital Time

AGM Set For September 20th

Singers, family members and supporters of Coastal Sound Music are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30pm.

We’ll be gathering in Salon B at the Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way in Coquitlam.

Rehearsals start September 4th & 6th

Coastal Sound Music’s choirs resume classes and rehearsals after Labour Day for another joyful, music-filled year.  Interested singers are still able to enroll in most of our choirs at this time. Here is the weekly rehearsal schedule at a glance:

Sources*
Classes at 4:15 & 5:15 on Tuesdays at Blakeburn Elementary (1050 Riverside Drive, Port Coquitlam).

Con Brio* and Con Bella*
Rehearsal is from 5:00 – 6:30pm on Tuesdays at Blakeburn Elementary (1050 Riverside Drive, Port Coquitlam).

Adult Choir*
Rehearsal is from 7:30 – 9:45 on Tuesdays at Riverside Secondary (2215 Reeve St., Port Coquitlam).

Children’s Choir*
Rehearsal is from 4:15 – 6:30 on Thursdays at Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). See handbook for occasional Saturday rehearsal schedule. 

Youth Choir
Rehearsal is from 7:00- 9:00 on Thursdays at  Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam).

* Space is still available in these choirs. Potential new singers are welcome to visit rehearsals in September.
