Boys’ and Girls’ Workshops
Boys and girls have unique vocal qualities, especially at that tricky middle school age, and we at CSMA know it. That’s why at the beginning of each calendar year, CSMA, in cooperation with School District 43 (Coquitlam) and the Evergreen Cultural Centre, presents a day-long singing workshop for students in grades four through eight. Each year alternates between a Boys’ Day and Girls’ Day, featuring guest clinicians, an evening performance, and even a mid-day swim break across the street at Coquitlam’s Aquatic Centre.
This year will be a Boys' Day Workshop on Friday, February 22nd, 2008. Registration and Waiver Forms are available at most schools or by calling CSMA office at 604-469-5973.
The $35 registration fee covers vocal workshop, performance coaching, swimming at the Coquitlam Aquatic Centre and one concert ticket admission to the evening concert. Additional tickets to the evening concert are available through the Evergreen Cultural Centre ticket box office at $10 each. As seating is limited we ask individuals limit ticket purchase to two or less. Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Girls Workshop participants do not need a ticket.
Last year’s highlights:
2006 Boys’ Day Workshop was held Friday, January 27, 2006 with Mr. Russ Baird, music director of the Poppy Male Chorus, Langley, BC. as head clinician. Mr. Baird is in his seventh year of music activities at D.W. Poppy Secondary School and before Mr. Baird moved to B.C., he was a well-established musician in Ontario. He was elected to the MusicFest Canada “Hall of Fame” in 1991 for his contribution to music education across Canada. His mission is to encourage all generations to make music—what better way to insure happiness and peace in our troubled world.
This year’s Boys’ Day includes a full day of vocal work-shopping and performance with children’s voice specialists: Ms. Diana Clark and Ms. Tia Turner; with special guest artist Steve Maddock. The Boys will share the evening concert stage with CSMA Children’s Choir and CSMA Boychoir.
