Join a CSMA Choir

For everyone from the young to the “not-so-young”, CSMA music instructors work toward two goals: to make music fun and to achieve musical excellence, which we believe go hand in hand.

To help us achieve these goals, we divide our singers into seven levels:

Uniform Requirements

We like our CSMA singers to look their best, so all participants have uniforms for different occasions—performances, special rehearsals, tours and photography sessions.

Advance notice of dress requirements is always provided at rehearsals and via email bulletins. Some uniform parts are provided to the member by CSMA with registration. Some parts must be purchased by the member independently or through CSMA.

All Training Choirs:

  • Casual uniform: CSMA navy blue T-shirt, (provided with registration) with dark colour pants, or new blue jeans (not faded), comfortable shoes and socks at workshops, staging/blocking rehearsals and other special events. Members are notified in advance when to wear the navy T-shirts.
  • Formal uniform: Royal blue CSMA polo shirt, (purchased at registration time)
  • Black dress pants, black shoes and socks supplied by singer.

Sources:

  • CSMA navy blue T-shirt (provided with registration) for special occasions. Advance notice will be given when to wear the CSMA shirts.

Novisingers and Girlchoir:

  • Wear formal uniform as described above for all concert or formal performances.

Boychoir:

Formal concert uniform includes:

  • Royal blue CSMA polo shirt with
  • Black dress pants, black shoes and socks supplied by singer.

Children’s Concert Choir:

  • All above uniform combinations apply to the Children’s Concert Choir as well as other uniform parts supplied by CSMA. The Children’s Choir has several uniform combinations and specifications are explained as singers graduate to this performance level.

Youth Choir:

  • Some formal uniform parts supplied by CSMA
  • Other uniform specifications are explained as the singers enter and/or graduate to these performance levels.

Adult Community Concert Choir:

  • Men and women wear a formal uniform, partly supplied by CSMA and partly purchased by the member. Uniform specifications are distributed to adult members upon registration.

In addition, whether on tour or at rehearsals, singers in the training choirs and children’s choir are expected to follow a dress code typically expressed in a school setting.

This includes:

  • No “aggressive” apparel, such as army fatigues, muscle shirts, chains, etc.
  • No “suggestive” apparel, such as crop shirts, spaghetti straps, etc.
  • No “attention-seeking” styles such as pink hair, visible body piercing, visible tattoos, etc.
  • We will remove hats in buildings and concert venues.

These guidelines are in keeping with the CSMA philosophy of harmony, dignity, professionalism and respect. They do not connote judgment of singers’ choices outside of CSMA events, and are not applicable when students are not participating in CSMA events.
