The Children’s Choir has been the flagship choir for 22 years at Coastal Sound Music Academy, under the direction of artistic director Diana Clark.  This choir has entertained and brought joy to audiences and communities throughout BC, Canada and the world.  The treble-voice Children’s Choir singers represent dedicated young people from many cultural heritages, ages 8-16 years old.  These children demonstrate the fun and artistry of music making and the focus, self-discipline and hard work necessary for successful performances.  The choir’s repertoire includes classical, popular, newly composed modern, folksongs in diverse languages, and spirited inspirational music.  Vocal technique, joy of singing and audience connection are the core values of this group.

Since Diana Clark came to the podium as Artistic Director in 2009, the choir has been recommended to represent the Kiwanis Festival at the provincial level three years in a row, and has been featured at a number of Olympic Celebration sites, Water’s Edge Festival at Evergreen Cultural Centre, and has performed at many community events. It is by contributing to the cultural fabric of the area, enriching lives and connecting to their community through music, that the singers in this choir get the most joy and satisfaction.

Touring to Ottawa in July 2010 was an important musical and learning journey for Coastal Sound singers, as they explored their Canadian identity through music. Singers made connections with historic places of cultural significance, and enriched lives by sharing our songs with others.

The choristers are children with unchanged voices who are auditioned in the Greater Vancouver area. This ensemble performs many times during the year for community and corporate events, local and international conferences, as a demonstration choir for music educators, and in festivals in Canada and internationally.

The choir has toured extensively to acclaim throughout Europe, Cuba and China. The choir has produced two CDs, and proudly hosts the Coastal Sound International Choral Festival.

This award-winning choir has been the “children’s choir in residence” at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam since September 2001.
